CELEBRATING JUDY CRAWFORD

Dear Colleagues,

It is with profound gratitude and admiration that we announce the retirement of Judy Crawford, our esteemed Executive Director, who has dedicated 27 years to the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). Judy’s unwavering commitment and visionary leadership have been instrumental in shaping BCIA into the globally recognized certifying body it is today.

In 2014, under Judy’s guidance, BCIA transitioned from operating under an association management company to becoming a standalone organization. This pivotal move enhanced our autonomy and capacity to serve the biofeedback community more effectively. Judy’s innovative problem-solving and forward-thinking approach have consistently driven BCIA’s growth and adaptation in a dynamic field.

Judy’s vast knowledge and experience have made her an invaluable resource to many. She has generously offered career counseling to numerous professionals, guiding them through the complexities of biofeedback certification and practice. Her mentorship has left an indelible mark on countless careers.

Her contributions extend beyond individual mentorship. Judy played a crucial role in establishing BCIA-A and BCIA-H, expanding our certification programs to new regions and specialties. She co-authored four articles on certification with Don Moss and Fred Shaffer for Biofeedback magazine, contributing to the literature in our field.

Judy also championed outreach initiatives to the military and Veterans Affairs, recognizing the profound benefits biofeedback can offer to service members. She actively supported regional societies, including the Florida Biofeedback Society and the Northeast Regional Biofeedback Society (NRBS), fostering community and collaboration within the field. A steadfast advocate for ethical practice, Judy has been a constant impetus for expanding ethics education and updating our ethical code, ensuring that BCIA certificants uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

Judy has also played a vital role in making BCIA truly international. She worked tirelessly to lower certification fees for professionals in international regions, ensuring that biofeedback training and credentialing remain accessible to practitioners worldwide. Her efforts have helped put the “I” in BCIA, making it a globally recognized organization committed to advancing the field across borders.

In recognition of her extraordinary service, Judy has been bestowed the honorary title of Executive Director Emeritus. We are thrilled that she will remain an advisor to BCIA and our partner organizations, continuing to lend her knowledge and expertise. In her well-earned retirement, Judy will also dedicate time to her passion for volunteerism, serving her local community through a food bank initiative.

As Judy embarks on this next chapter, we extend our heartfelt best wishes. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide BCIA’s mission and values. Please join us in celebrating Judy’s remarkable career and in expressing our deepest appreciation for her unparalleled contributions to the biofeedback community.

With sincere gratitude,

The BCIA Board of Directors & Staff
